The Penguins report to the UPMC South Side facility Tuesday morning for physicals and tests. The team will then hit the ice Wednesday morning. The majority of the players arrived in Pittsburgh this weekend. When the players hit the ice Wednesday morning it is going to be a very intense camp. There are six to eight players vying for the final two forward spots. Among the players going to garner serious consideration to make the squad will be Jeff Taffe, Kris Beech, Ryan Stone, Jonathan Filewich, Bill Thomas, Janne Pesonen, Dustin Jeffery, and Chris Minard.
Just a reminder: Inside Pittsburgh Sports will have daily reports from Penguins training camp available only to Inside Access Members. DePaoli gives you the latest buzz
The team is very intrigued to see how Ryan Stone and Jonathan Filewich perform in camp. The Penguins believe Stone could be a valuable asset on the team’s fourth line.
Sidney Crosby has been doing some special work during the off-season to improve his shot.
The Penguins plan on using Matt Cooke in a lot of different roles. Cooke is a player that Penguins GM Ray Shero targeted from the first day of free agency
Ray Shero did place a call to Anton Thun the agent for Glen Murray just see what Murray’s intentions are.
Pascal Dupuis has been told he will see time at left wing and right wing in training camp. Dupuis has been working extensively on controlling the puck off the right wing boards.
The team envisions Tyler Kennedy in a 4th line energy role this year.
Talk to a source close to the Penguins organization this weekend and he indicates the plan is to start Alex Goligoski in WBS but nothing is definite. Goligoski has taken great strides in the past year and should compete for a roster spot but the numbers are against him.
I will have a update on the Penguins prospect tournament posted by Monday evening.
