While Pittsburgh remains optimistic Aaron Rodgers will sign with them eventually, multiple sources say on the advice of owner Art Rooney II, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has seen his power grow behind the scenes and has been heavily leaned on in the QB evaluation process throughout the draft and free agency process. Among the latest developments since the weekend is growing support from Smith for the team to consider a Kirk Cousins trade. Smith before being fired after the 2023 was involved in the buildup from the Falcons organization on planning to target Cousins in 2024 free agency and Smith is regarded as a Cousins. Few would be ecstatic about a Cousins trade but Pittsburgh, Atlanta have discussed terms of a Day 3 trade that would need Cousins agreement and essentially Pittsburgh buying a draft pick, believed to be a fourth or fifth rounder to bring in Cousins as competition with Mason Rudolph.
