Young #8 on Chad Ford’s updated Rankings
In the NCAA tournament Sam Young showed the ability to score from anywhere on the floor and because of that, Young’s draft stock is currently on the rise.
Chad Ford’s updated chart of the top 10 NBA prospects, which was shown last night on NBA Fastbreak, Young was the #8 prospect on Ford’s big board. At mid-season Young was rated in the 30-35 range.
Despite rising to the top 10 on some big boards, Young is not a lock to be a lottery pick because of his age. He just turned 24 in March. NBA scouts love young players.
At 6-6, 215 lbs, Young
is a excellent rebounder and his development of his long-range shot has quieted some of the critics who wondered if he had a position to play in the NBA.
Young appears to be suited to play small forward at the next level and due to his athletic ability, Young could flourish in an uptempo-style.
Getting into the lottery discussion will be Sam Young’s primary goal as he prepares for the draft. He has cemented himself as a mid-late first round pick, now the tough part will be overcoming the age factor, which will be the obstacle he will have to overcome
Young will be an intriguing player in the draft because he has the ability to contribute right off the bat and is not seen as a projection player. While Young’s upside may be limited, he will make a smooth transition to the next level.
