STEELERS FREE AGENCY CHATTER
*In a move that will make Ben Roethlisberger happy and is a smart decision if they use him right, the Pittsburgh Steelers plan to resign veteran receiver Plaxico Burress to a one year deal. The Steelers reached out to agent Drew Rosenhaus on Monday and Burress expects to sign the deal this week, a source confirms. Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports first reported of a deal being in place.
*Meanwhile, the Steelers are making a last ditch effort to keep Larry Foote from signing with the Arizona Cardinals who are prepared to offer Foote a two year deal. The Steelers are going to have to pay Foote more than they wanted too and likely go at least two years. They remain engaged in talks with agent Brian Levy at this hour on striking a deal. Jason LaCanfora today called Arizona the “favorites” to sign Foote.
(Updated 2:20 p.m. – The Steelers and Foote have agreed to a three year deal)
*Many wonder what type of market is out there for former Steelers OLB James Harrison. Agent Bill Parise says Harrison has drawn immediate interest since being released. “We have talked with several teams,” Parise told Inside Pittsburgh Sports.com.
Parise has told any media outlet that will listen that Harrison is interested in their city but he has received calls from the Saints, Cardinals and Eagles, we can confirm. Remains to be seen if offers are coming and whether teams like the Patriots, Browns and Ravens will show interest. Harrison’s camp believes the Ravens are going to emerge as a landing spot.
