GAME DAY BUZZ
VANCOUVER CANUCKS (5-3-0, 10 PTS) VS PITTSBURGH PENGUINS (6-1-0, 12 PTS)
The Penguins face their toughest test of the season today with John Tortorella and the Vancouver Canucks in town. It’s an exciting game as the schedule starts to pick up for the Penguins in regards to facing some true contenders.
SOME BUZZ HEADING INTO TODAY’S GAME
*The Penguins yesterday recalled Chris Conner who is off to a strong start in Wilkes Barre and has long been a favorite of Dan Bylsma. The reason? The Penguins being disappointed in Dustin Jeffrey could be one of them. The coaches felt Jeffrey had a strong camp and had an edge on Joe Vitale as the 4th line center but Jeffrey has been invisible in six regular season, including seeing action as the third line left winger. Jeffrey has no points and just 3 shots on goal.
Jeffrey was the odd-man out again in Friday’s practice.
*Marc Andre Fleury will start in goal today looking to improve to 7-0 on the season. Roberto Luongo starts for Vancouver.
*Beau Bennett skated in gear this morning but will miss his third straight game. He does not have a serious injury.
*Kris Letang would be playing if this was the post-season. He will miss his eighth straight game today but should return next week The Penguins are being smart in letting Letang slowly work his way back, compared to the team playing James Neal in the season opener when he shouldn’t have been on the ice. Neal is going to miss at least a couple more weeks and has been regarded as having a 4-6 week injury.
