Gerrit Cole (4-0) improved to 8-0 in his last 10 starts, allowing an unearned run in six innings, while striking out eight and walking just one in the Pirates 8-1 win over the Cubs to avoid being swept. The right-hander is 6-0 in six career starts against the Cubs.
“I thought he did a lockdown job,” manager Clint Hurdle said of Cole. “He stayed focused. He kept firing and kept battling. A very solid professional start.”
Cole lowered his ERA to 1.76 and has a 35/8 K/BB ratio in 30 2/3 innings.
