Harrison gets 6 years – $51.7 million deal
On Saturday we spoke to Bill Parise the agent for James Harrison and he told us the Steelers finalized a deal Saturday afternoon and scheduled a press conference for Tuesday.
Parise tells us this morning the press conference will be at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Ed Bouchette has details of the deal and reports Harrison gets $51.7 million over 6 years and $20 million in signing & roster bonuses.
Parise has confirmed to Inside Pittsburgh Sports that Harrison will receive $20 million in guarantees. The signing and roster bonuses are guaranteed.
Breakdown of the Contract
According to Parise, the deal is
“very much” front loaded — what he told us. Full details will be given out at tomorrow’s press conference.
As we mentioned over the weekend, both sides made concessions especially from Harrison’s end. Bill Parise deserves a lot of credit for getting a fair deal for both sides.
With the roster bonuses, Harrison will receive $20 million in guarantees with the bulk of the roster bonuses in the first two years of the deal according to Parise.
Art Rooney wanted to get a deal done before the draft and was behind the Steelers increasing the guaranteed money to $20 million.
Troy Polamalu ($15.75MM) actually received more money upfront.
