MILLER, POUNCEY NAMED TO PRO BOWL
Two Pittsburgh Steelers were named to the AFC Pro Bowl Team this evening. Center Maurkice Pouncey was named a starter at center and Heath Miller made the team as the second tight end. Miller obviously won’t play and is having season ending knee surgery on Thursday.
Pouncey one of the games best centers will be making his third consecutive pro bowl, including his second as a starter. He has started 14-of-15 games this season, including one at left guard. Some pundits, though, feel Pouncey didn’t deserve to make this years team.
Before suffering a season-ending knee injury on Sunday vs Bengals, Miller had a team-high 71 receptions and a career-best 816 receiving yards. Miller is tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns with a career-high eight on the season.
Were any Steelers snubbed?
The one player who stands out as a pro bowl snub for Steelers is inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons who re-emerged this season as one of the NFL’s best inside linebackers and was the Steelers lone playmaker at the linebacker position this season.
Notes: The Pro Bowl will be played Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii and televised by NBC at 7 p.m. Eastern. The Pro Bowl squads were selected by a combined voting of fans, players and coaches.
