One of Kyle Dubas big sale points to Penguins ownership during the interview process is he believed a trade of Erik Karlsson was THE game changing type move he could make to reopen the championship window and Dubas later proved it wasn’t a fantasy world type pursuit when back in May he told Penguins ownership it was a complicated trade he was confident he could execute based on his pursuit of Karlsson last season as Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager and all the logistics he knew that would be involved.

— As the Erik Karlsson trade and the slew of front office changes has breathed new life into the Penguins organization, it’s no secret in team circles that Mike Sullivan is going to get at least a one-year Honeymoon run here. Still doesn’t mean the pressure isn’t going to be on. Kyle Dubas has given Sullivan clearly a better roster and has given Sullivan great lead-way on particular roster decisions that in the end will eventually add more pressure on Sullivan. Among them has been a desire to rebuild the bottom-6 lines into a more responsible 200 ft type group that may not provide the type of offense you necessarily see among true Cup contenders but will be responsible and hard to play against in becoming puck hunting hawks through the neutral zone and defensive zone. There’s a belief in the organization that Pittsburgh’s top-6 and the Erik Karlsson addition will easily make up for a lack of offense in the bottom-6……
