— Sidney Crosby’s overtime goal with 1:12 left in OT delivered a 3-2 come from behind Penguins win over the New York Islanders on Saturday evening at the PPG Paints Arena.

Crosby’s winner came on the Penguins 50th shot of the night and the goal happened moments after the Penguins killed off a 4-on-3 too-many-men penalty in overtime.

Pittsburgh outshot the Islanders 50-27 in the win.


Derick Brassard scored his first goal as a Penguin, tying the game at 2-2 with 9:31 left in the third. Patric Hornqvist also scored in the win, a power play marker in the second period for his 18th goal of the season.

Excluding the lockout season where he only played 24 games, Hornqvist is closing on his 8th straight 20-goal season.

Tristan Jarry got the win with a 25 save performance. Jarry’s  start to the game, though, did not begin well, allowing a Brandon Davidson goal 1:11 into the game.

 


— Pittsburgh made two lineup changes, inserting Dominik Simon and Chad Ruhwedel into the lineup and scratching Matt Hunwick and Carter Rowney.

Simon who has shown flashes this season in short doses, played well on the third line in picking up an assist and was at 59% (13/9) in possession.

The third pairing of Olli Maatta – Chad Ruhwedel was really good.
