A 1-0 Cubs lead in the second inning was all Jake Arreita was going to need. Arreita threw 7 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits as the Cubs (19-6) rolled to a 7-1 win over the Pirates (15-12) on Tuesday night.

Chicago has won the first two games of the series by a combined score of 14-3.

The Pirates managed just 3 hits in the loss, their lone run coming in the eighth inning down 6-0 off reliever Trevor Cahill on a John Jaso groundout to the catcher.

Pirate starter Jon Niese (3-1, 5.94 ERA) was rocked for 9 hits and 6 earned runs in five innings. He walked 5 and struck out 3.
