Jameson Taillon (3-2, 2.85 ERA) threw eight shutout innings of three hit ball, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates (57-55) to a 4-0 win over the Padres (49-65) on Thursday afternoon.
Taillon allowed 3 hits and no runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2 in throwing 101 pitches.
Clint Hurdle marveled afterwards of Taillon’s pitch efficiency and ability to pound the zone.
“Pitch efficiency continues to be first and foremost for me,” Hurdle said. “It’s very, very attractive. Today, he averaged just 12 pitches per inning. He’s pounding the zone.”
