The month of September has been a low note for Gerrit Cole (12-12, 4.26 ERA) and that continued in his final start of the season, being saddled for his 12th loss of the season in a Pirates 6-1 loss to the Nationals.
Cole surrendered 8 hits and 3 runs in a 5 1/3 innings as Stephen Strasburg (W, 15-4) was brilliant for the Nationals in allowing a pair of singles in 7 2/3 shutout innings. Strasburg stuck out 8 and walked 2.
For Cole, he ends the season 12-12 with a career worst mark in losses (12), ERA (4.26) and home runs (31) allowed.
Cole allowed 22 runs in 36 innings during the month of September.
