James Conner starred in a second half comeback for the Steelers in rushing for 98 yards on 20 carries in the Steelers 17-13 win over the Falcons on Sunday afternoon.
Conner had some early big drops and rushed just six times for 13 yards in the first half as he was non-existent against the Falcons first and second team, but pounded the Falcons in the third and fourth quarters, rushing 14 times for 86 yards.
Much of the damage Conner did was against third and fourth stringers but in having limited action in camp due to a shoulder injury, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was impressed.
“I hadn’t seen a lot of him. I wanted to get to know him,” said Tomlin. “I thought he represented himself well, particularly from a conditioning standpoint. You can’t underscore that element of that. I know he is a professional athlete, generally he is in shape, but he hadn’t played a lot of football. To be able to execute the number of snaps he did is encouraging.”
