LEAFS 5 – PENGUINS 3 The Pittsburgh Penguins rest lineup almost crashed the Leafs party Saturday night. On goals from Phil Kessel (23), Sidney Crosby (44) and Jake Guentzel (16), Pittsburgh had Toronto on the ropes late in the 3rd period with a 3-2 lead.
The Leafs, though, would rally with under six minutes left to play on goals from Kasperi Kapanen (1), Connor Brown (20), 2:42 apart, and Auston Matthews (40) added an empty net goal as the Leafs became the 8th and final team to clinch a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Penguins netminder Marc Andre Fleury allowed 4 goals on 29 shots in the loss. Pittsburgh managed just 18 shots vs the Leafs.
