Another season, another year where Toronto’s core just can’t get it done. The Leafs core got a second life with an impressive Game 6 win to stave off elimination. Sunday night, though, was the Defending Stanley Cup champions putting on a clinic to send the Leafs home once again. You better score first against Florida or you’re toast. Toronto quickly found that out as Florida scored 3 goals in the first 9:15 of the second period to take a commanding 3-0 lead and never looked back. Major Offseason Questions loom for the Leafs:
- Mitch Marner returning viewed as less than 50/50 and has now become a tough sell for Leafs management to pay his market
- John Tavares is a second looming decision in Toronto where both sides have been interested in a return but do the Leafs decide to pass even at $6-$7 Million a year just to start the process of significantly changing the core…..
