A top priority for the Steelers prior to week 1 is signing 30 year old CB Joe Haden to a long-term extension. Preliminary talks between the Steelers and agent Drew Rosenhaus kicked off around a week ago and have heated up at the opening of camp. Rosenhaus who has a very good relationship with GM Kevin Colbert, met with the Steelers brass in person on Sunday to continue talks on three year extension for his client and there continues to be optimism of deal getting down between the two sides in the near future. Haden is due to make $10 million this season.
Colbert appearing on 937 The Fan this morning talked of how important Haden is to the group.
“I hope so,” said Colbert via The Fan. “I mean, Joe Haden is as professional a player as you could want. He’s a really good corner, he’s a great team guy and you want Joe Haden to be part of us as long as he can. Hopefully he does, hopefully he does remain with us. Obviously, he’s here this year and again, we’ll look at and see where everything goes and if it all makes sense for everybody on all sides, then we can maybe have a good player that’s a great team guy for more than one year.”
