Malcolm Brogdon scored 21 points as No. 9 Virginia (19-4, 8-3 ACC) outscored by Pittsburgh (17-5, 6-4) by 12 in the second half to secure a 64-50 win over the Panthers.
“Tonight we got what we deserved, and we have to do something about it going forward,” said head coach Jamie Dixon as the Panthers next two games are on the road against No. 17 Miami and No. 2 North Carolina.
Only two Panthers were in double figures. Jamel Artis led Pitt with 17 points and Michael Young had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Pitt shot 15% (2-13) from three point range and were outscored 28-14 in the paint.
Beating quality opponents continues to be a struggle for the 17-5 Panthers. All five losses for the Panthers have been by 13 points or more. Against ranked teams (0-3) the Panthers have been outscored by an average of 15 points.
