The Pitt Panthers coaching search is accelerating with chatter among Pitt boosters being that a new head coach could be in place by Tuesday at the latest, sources say. The process is reaching the point where the Panthers are keying on 1-2 candidates and the job will be offered to one in the next 24 hours.
One of the leading candidates who could be offered the job this weekend is Vanderbilt’s Kevin Stallings as the Panthers have engaged into serious discussions with the Vanderbilt coach and Vanderbilt officials about a buyout. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports calls Stallings a “serious candidate”.
Stallings, 55, has been at Vanderbilt for the last 17 years, reaching the NCAA Tournament just seven times during that span. Stallings has a record of 6-9 in the NCAA Tournament with no final four trips.
