The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed defenseman Marcus Pettersson to a one-year contract worth $874,125. The Penguins desire this summer to do a long-term contract (4 years) with the 23 year old Pettersson was eventually scraped due to the inability to clear enough cap space. Pettersson will be eligible to sign an extension on January 1, 2020 where both sides anticipate reaching a long-term deal.
“Marcus is a smart, reliable defenseman who improved our defensive corps after coming over from Anaheim last year,” said Penguins GM Jim Rutherford in a released statement. “We are fortunate to have a good, young defenseman of his caliber in our top-six.”
