Pirates, Giants close to completing a McCutchen trade

Trade talks between the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants have reached the serious enough stages where a deal to send Andrew McCutchen to San Francisco is now considered a formality.

Expectations are a deal will be officially completed within the next 24 hours.

The Pirates on Saturday swung a Gerrit Cole trade in a deal centered around getting quantity over quality where the Pirates received multiple years of control in all four players acquired.

A return for McCutchen is expected to be less than what the Pirates received for Cole but similar in that the Pirates won’t be receiving a high-end prospect/prospects.

mccutchen would be nice move for #SFGiants. only 1 year from free agency, so not expected to be enormous haul (i.e. no heliot ramos). talks serious with pirates, as reported.
