The trade market for Andrew McCutchen hasn’t heated up one bit yet, mostly due to teams that may trade for McCutchen are tied up in the Giancarlo Stanton situation.

While the Pirates don’t expect a hot market for McCutchen this winter, a small group of teams that showed interest last winter [hide] are kicking tires again.

Among them is the San Francisco Giants, who along with the St. Louis Cardinals are one of the top suitors for Stanton if the Marlins move him.

Jon Morosi of MLBnetwork reports the Giants have “remained in contact” with the Pirates and San Francisco will be a team to watch in the coming weeks.

McCutchen has one year left on his contract with a $14.5 million salary.

Last winter the Nationals, Yankees, Giants and Dodgers all kicked tires on McCutchen with Pittsburgh holding the most serious talks with Washington prior to them acquiring Adam Eaton and the Yankees later in the winter.

The Pirates are not yet at the stage where they’ve established a specific asking price for McCutchen.

Last winter they went from seeking a heavy prospects package for McCutchen before altering the asking price during the season to MLB-ready players. [/hide]
