Last summer Matt Cullen was destined to sign with the Minnesota Wild if GM Chuck Fletcher would have came forward with an offer after numerous discussions all summer between the Wild and Cullen’s agent Pat Morris.
One never came and Cullen eventually resigned with the Penguins in mid-August and won another Stanley Cup.
With Cullen’s wife wanting to live full-time in Minnesota, the speculation has been out there that if Cullen returns for a 20th season, it might only be for Minnesota.
Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports the Wild have contacted Cullen this week during the UFA period. Russo also reports Minnesota has reached out to Chris Kunitz.
Kunitz, per sources, has seen a strong market emerge with six teams calling in the first 24 hours and that number has now rose. He is very popular among playoff teams.
