Final: Steelers 26 – Ravens 9
Behind 144 rushing yards (186 all-purpose yards) from Le’Veon Bell and a dominant day on defense, the Pittsburgh Steeelers (3-1) cruised to a 26-9 win over the Baltimore Ravens (2-2) on Sunday afternoon.
The Steelers were in control of this one at the half, leading 19-0 over the Ravens and while Baltimore got it to within 10 points in the third quarter, the Steelers pulled away late in the 4th with an interception from Mike Hilton and Le’Veon Bell icing the game with a one yard Td run with 2:26 remaining.
The Steelers stifled the Ravens offense throughout the game, especially in the first half, where Pittsburgh limited Joe Flacco to 49 yards passing and the Ravens had totaled just 69 yards of offense after two quarters.
Pittsburgh took control of the game in the second quarter.
Leading 6-0, Steelers DE Cam Heyward forced an Alex Collins fumble and Pittsburgh would counter going 6 plays for 28 yards, capped off by a Le’Veon Bell 1 yard TD run to go up 13-0.
To end the half, Pittsburgh went 8 plays for 70 yards as Ben Roethlisberger connected with Juju Smith-Shuster for an 11 yard touchdown reception to take complete control of the game with a 19-0 lead after a failed 2-point conversion.
Despite the lofty offensive numbers in the first half, similar to Antonio Brown’s great game in week 1 vs the Browns, the Steelers needed the great performance they got from Bell as Ben Roethlisberger and several others on offense had a rather pedestrian game.
Roethlisberger was 18/30 for 216 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He struggled with his accuracy, especially on long throws.
Antonio Brown was held to 4 catches for 32 yards on 9 targets and had a tantrum on the sidelines in the first half.
Offense Game Ball – Le’Veon Bell | 144 Yards Rushing, 2 touchdowns and 4 catches for 42 yards. Rumblings of players inside the room being frustrated with the lack of commitment to the run and the Steelers fed Bell all game, giving him 35 carries.
Defense Game Ball – Cam Heyward | 4 Tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble, Heyward was a beast again in the win.
