Two straight losses, Justin Fields unable to sustain the momentum he built up in the second half of the Colts game, Mike Tomlin now really has his OUT to go do what he always wanted to do in handing the keys to Russell Wilson. Wilson is regarded by team officials as being absolutely lights out in team drills leading into the Cowboys game and a road game against Vegas is just the perfect opportunity to make the change. It will be a major stunner if Wilson is not under center this coming Sunday. “I just thought we didn’t do enough over sixty minutes to position ourselves specifically,” Tomlin said of the loss. “I thought we started slow offensively, and I thought it was self-inflicted wounds, penalties, and things of that nature to get us off schedule.”
Sunday’s performance from Fields and the offense lets Tomlin off the hook from having to contemplate making a QB switch for a 4-1 team. Coming in it was going to be a defining game for Fields either way. Multiple injuries to the Cowboys defense and no Michah Parsons roaming the field, on paper Pittsburgh should have been able to exploit a number of matchups in their favor and their inability to do so is ever more of a wakeup call of why Russell Wilson was so strongly favored by coaches as the start since he was signed.
