The Tristan Jarry situation is entering the territory where Jarry is on the cusp if he hasn’t already of losing his biggest supporter in the organization in Mike Sullivan.
“It was just a tough start for the whole team,” head coach Mike Sullivan said after the Penguins 6-5 OT win. “We just felt like, given the way the game started, it was the right thing to make the switch. I think Tristan was victim of that start to a certain extent. He was also part of that to a certain extent.”
Jarry was pulled 11:33 into Wednesday night’s game after allowing 3 goals on five shots and there continues to be a myriad of issues surrounding his game. Jarry’s not in just some type of rut and getting sniped by gifted goal scorers. He’s slow to react on almost everything and his angles are something of an ECHL caliber goaltender right now. He is leaning so far to his strong side, it looks like he’s taking warmup shots with the bullseye he’s leaving on his weak side.
When Jarry loses Mike Sullivan it’s going to be game over for the Penguins netminder who has three years remaining on his deal after this season. And that day is getting awfully close. Sullivan has been a staunch supporter of Jarry for years now. There’s really been no bigger backer.
