Jung Ho Kang got the start at third base in the Pirates 8-1 win over the Cubs Wednesday night and made the most of his opportunity. Kang went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a walk and added his first stolen base in the Majors. Pirate officials believe Kang eventually has the potential to evolve into a 20 home run player and he showed some of that potential in launching a 93-mph fastball to center field that bounced off ivy-covered wall and only a few inches from collecting his first home of his MLB career.
“He’s a really good player. He’s got skills,” manager Clint Hurdle said. “He can swing the bat. I think over time, everybody will warm up to him.”
