Veteran forward Tom Kostopoulos who is playing in Wilkes Barre on a professional tryout, made a good impression on the Penguins brass last weekend, sources tell Inside Pittsburgh Sports.
Kostopoulos is drawing good praise inside Penguin circles for his ability to get to loose pucks in the offensive zone and play an effective third line energy role over the weekend in two games with the Baby Penguins.
With an interest in bolstering their depth at the forward position and under the max-50 contract limit, is Kostopoulos likely to receive a contract offer from the Penguins in the immediate future?
Things appear to be moving into that direction, although it’s believed the Penguins want to see Kostopoulos get a few more game under his belt before making any commitments. As of 4:00 p.m. today, the Penguins had yet to engage in contract talks with Kostopoulos’ reps at Buckley Sports.
The vibe surrounding Kostopoulos is that he’s showcasing himself for the big club in Pittsburgh, while the vibe surrounding Mark Eaton remains that he’s showcasing himself for other teams. Eaton’s camp has tried to downplay the chances of him signing with Pittsburgh but that’s always subject to change.
