Have the Penguins targeted Petr Sykora as their Plan B
Thanks to the help of good friend David Staples of the EDM Journal, I was able to get in touch with a source close to Ales Kotalik.
The source tells me Pittsburgh reached out to their camp within the first two hours of free agency.
“Ales is very interested in Pittsburgh”, according to the source.
While there appears to be a mutual interest, Kotalik’s camp hasn’t heard from Pittsburgh since Wednesday afternoon.
Nashville, LA Kings, Vancouver Canucks and the Anaheim Ducks are among the teams to express interest in Kotalik.
All of the Penguins efforts are with Ruslan Fedotenko and there is talk that Petr Sykora is their primary back up plan.
As for the Petr Sykora front, Pittsburgh has held preliminary discussions to this point. Pittsburgh is willing to go one year but at a discount.
Sykora wants two years including a NTC for him to take a discount. The one year deal is something, Walsh, Sykora aren’t ready to take just yet.
That time could come if the market doesn’t improve.
