Team Canada’s development camp is underway and because of insurance purposes, playing are not allowed skate but Team Canada has the players going through an instructional ball hockey practice.
Nonetheless, it’s an opportunity for the coaching staff to put some lines and d-pairs together.
Here are the reported groupings:
1st Group
Eric Staal – Jonathan Toews – Rick Nash
Logan Couture – John Tavares – Steven Stamkos
Andrew Ladd – Ryan Getzlaf – Corey Perry
Mike Richards – Jeff Carter – Marty. St Louis
2nd group
Chris Kunitz – Sidney Crosby – Patrick Sharp
Brad Marchand – Patrice Bergeron – Jordan Eberle
Milan Lucic – Matt Duchene – James Neal
Taylor Hall – Jordan Staal
Tidbits: It’s a good sign for Chris Kunitz to open the camp with Sidney Crosby. He’s a darkhorse and a few people in the know I’ve talked with this summer feel Kunitz has a better shot in making the team than James Neal…… Kris Letang was paired with Marc Methot. Letang is no lock to be among Canada’s regulars to dress in the Olympics and it was interesting to see Bob McKenzie project Canada’s top-6 on the blueline possibly being Duncan Keith – Shea Weber; Marc Staal – Drew Doughty; Jay Bouwmeester – Alex Pietrangelo. McKenzie left off both PK Subban and Letang
