LATEST TRADE BUZZ
Chances are good that the Penguins move a salary I’m told. Pierre LeBrun of ESPN confirms that Tyler Kennedy is in play and we continue to hear that the Penguins look to move up in the draft into the second round. The Penguins have made a $2 million qualifying offer to Kennedy and Kennedy, as expected, intends to sign the tender.
Could the Penguins move Kennedy to San Jose for one of their second round picks? That rumor is floating out there, sources say.
One player also very much in play is Dustin Jeffrey, who has yet to find a regular role with the team. Pittsburgh had been seeking a third round or fourth round pick for Jeffrey, which might be too high. An interesting name to watch is Jussi Jokinen who carries a $2.1 million cap hit.
The Penguins continue to have internal discussions of Jokinen moving into a top-6 winger role. With talks having stalled for now with Pascal Dupuis, I think the Penguins look to keep Jokinen for now.
Another name starting to float out there is Matt Niskanen, but hearing the Penguins prefer to keep him. Niskanen is entering the final year of his deal with a $2.3 million cap hit.
