Contract Extension for Ovechkin?
Since their rookie year, Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin have been linked in a friendly rivalry. So Crosby’s new five-year, $43.5M contract extension naturally turns attention on the Capitals to re-sign their young superstar before he becomes a restricted free agent next summer. “We don’t discuss player contracts,” Capitals GM George McPhee told The Washington Times regarding Ovechkin’s situation.
My Take: There has been a lot of speculation going around that Ovechkin is waiting to see how the Capitals fare this season before signing a long term deal. Regardless the Capitals would match any deal he would receive following next season

My take: Eklund first reported this a few weeks back but i can’t see it happening. Two sources close to the Penguins have said the Flyers are pursuing Selanne and are also looking to bring back Forsberg. Forsberg is not expect back until before the All-Star break
