Friday’s Penguins Buzz
The Penguins return from the five day bye break and have recalled goaltender Tristan Jarry and defenseman Chad Ruhwedel.
Ruhwedel has passed Derrick Pouliot on the organizational depth chart and has been a stronger fit in the transition game than Pouliot. Ruhwedel has 1 goal and 1 assist and a +3 rating in five games.
The Penguins have reached the point again with Pouliot where they just want him playing regularly in the American Hockey League and it’s clear to many his future with this coaching staff is pretty much bleak.
The talk in Penguin circles prior to the season is that the management team looked at this still as somewhat of a development year for Pouliot again with hopes that he could transition into Trevor Daley’s long-term replacement for next season.
There’s little evidence that’s still the plan.
The player hasn’t demanded a trade yet but wants a fresh start under a coaching staff that has zero confidence in him to play his own end at a capable NHL level.
It’s becoming clear where things are headed.
The Penguins are getting calls on Pouliot and as expected teams aren’t willing to offer much but there is interest from clubs that still see some upside, sources say.
