The leading candidate from the start of the process, the New Jersey Devils are believed to be close to naming Wilkes Barre head coach John Hynes their next head coach.
Certainly appears as if PIT's AHL coach John Hynes is the likely leading candidate to be next head coach in NJ. Nothing official, mind you.

According to a Penguins source, Hynes is in New Jersey this morning.
It is expected that Hynes will receive a three year deal from the Devils. Hynes signed a two year extension with the Penguins organization this past season, worth around $200,000 per season.
Similar to Dan Bylsma, the Penguins are expected to receive compensation for Hynes.
The Devils have one third round pick in 2015, three in 2016. It’s likely New Jersey will surrender their third round pick from Detroit or Florida.
