The Tampa Bay Lightning earlier today acquired the rights to winger Jake Guentzel as the Lightning look to take no chances and to secure a deal for Guentzel. Hours later, the Lightning and Guentzel have agreed to terms on a seven year deal taking one of the top free agents off the market. The Hurricanes in the deal receive a 2025 third round pick from the Lightning. The Dallas Stars made a serious attempt to acquire Guentzel’s rights late Saturday night in the hopes of swaying him away from Tampa Bay. That saw the Lightning have to pay a price of a third rounder today.
