The Pirates announced today that James McDonald will join the Pirates on Monday. Andrew Lambo will report to Double-A Altoona. Joe Martinez acquired in the Javier Lopez trade, will report to Triple-A Indy.
The Pittsburgh Pirates traded closer Octavio Dotel to the Los Angeles Dodgers just before the deadline ended. The Pirates will receive pitcher James MacDonald and outfielder Andrew Lambo. The Pirates are also sending cash to the Dodgers.
According to reports out of San Francisco, the Pirates have traded reliever Javier Lopez to the San Francisco Giants in-exchange for RHP Joe Martinez. Martinez, 27, has made seven career starts in the major leagues. Martinez was 3-2 with a 7.50 ERA in 5 starts last season with San Francisco.
The Yankees and Red Sox are among three teams in talks with the Pirates about reliever Javier Lopez. Lopez is the most likely reliever to go.The Mets, Braves and Red Sox among others have also checked in on Pirates closer Octavio Dotel. The Yankees have reportedly decided to pass on Dotel.
The Tigers, Padres and Yankees are all out of the Paul Maholm sweepstakes. The Pirates feel the Yankees and Tigers don’t match up and never held serious talks with either. The Padres have decided to go in another direction. The only two wilcards still somewhat in the mix include the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets. However, LA’s efforts have been on Ted Lilly and are reportedly closing in on a deal.
The Pittsburgh Pirates officially announced the 5-player deal minutes ago. The Pirates will receive catcher Chris Snyder and prospect Pedro Ciriaco, in-exchange for Ryan Church, D.J. Carrasco and Bobby Crosby. The Pirates will receive upwards of $2 million dollars.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will receive Bobby Crosby and Ryan Church, we can confirm. Jenifer Langosh of MLB.com reporting reliever D.J. Carrasco may also be involved in the deal. Pittsburgh will only receive one MLB roster player, catcher Chris Snyder.
Speculation is rampant that 1st baseman could be on the move but despite some inquiries from the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants, the Pirates are not close to dealing Jones, a team source tells Inside Pittsburgh Sports.
Jeff Clement has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis along with infielder Argenis Diaz. Both will join the team today.
The Pittsburgh Pirates finalized a deal for Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder early this morning. The Pirates will be sending a roster player to Arizona and cash will also be exchanging hands. The deal was expected to be approved before noon today.
