Monday Practice Notes
Going into the final week of the season, the Penguins have no continuity on their top power play 2 units as the struggles on the power play have forced the coaching staff to mix and match on a nightly basis in attempt to try find a spark.
A need for the coaching staff is to find a top unit and stick with them for more than a game.
In today’s skate, head coach Dan Bylsma is getting Zbynek Michalek an opportunity on the first power play unit once again in place of Paul Martin.
Michalek has 4 goals in his last 12 games and unlike Paul Martin, Michalek is not afraid to get the puck on the net.
The Penguins also appear to be going back with Alex Kovalev on the first unit at the half boards.
The Penguins went into their power play work much earlier than they usually do in practices. The team is 3 for their last 65.
Today’s Top Power Play Unit
Neal – Staal – Kovalev
Letang – Michalek
