Jim Rutherford has finally found his coach. Portland Winterhawks coach Mike Johnston and the Pittsburgh Penguins reached an agreement late last night for Johnston to become the Penguins next coach, Inside Pittsburgh Sports has learned.
A source says Johnston’s reps and Penguins COO Travis Williams are working on the final details of the contract, considered to be very minor and just paperwork stuff, the source said. There is expected to be no hiccups in finalizing the contract.
Term of the contract, believed to be three years, and other known issues like assistant coaches have been agreed upon, the source says.
The Penguins plan to officially introduce Johnston this afternoon.
