The Pittsburgh Pirates are expressing an interest in locking up Andrew McCutchen long-term but the team is insisting on McCutchen by passing a year or two of free agency.
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Pirates are insisting on at least a 5 year deal.
One bench mark in discussions at least from McCutchen’s end is believed to be Justin Upton’s six-year, $51.25 million contract extension he signed last season.
McCutchen is batting .227 with 5 home runs and 17 RBI’s on the season.
