MONDAY’S PROSPECT REPORT
COLE HAS STRONG DEBUT
Bradenton Marauders: — Top pitching prospect Gerrit Cole, the 2011 first overall pick, made his professional debut tonight for the Bradenton Marauders and it was a strong one. Cole showed off his power fastball hitting the high 90’s, allowing four hits and one run, while striking out seven and walking just one batter against the Palm Beach Cardinals who defeated the Marauders 2-1 on Monday night.
Cole went four innings and gave up his one run in the second inning after Jonathan Rodriguez led off the inning with a double and two batters later, Geoffrey Klein singled driving in Rodriguez. Throughout the outing, Cole got out of several situations with runners on base.
— 2011 third round pick Alex Dickerson (.125 avg – 0 HR – 0 RBI) is off to a rough start in his professional career. Dickerson was 0-4 in the loss and is now 2-16 with no extra base hits in four games played this season.
— 2010 third round pick Mel Rojas Jr (.313 – 0 HR – 1 RBI) was 1-4 in the loss. The center fielder is batting .313 (5-16) on the season.
MARTE PICKING UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF
Indianapolis Indians: — Starling Marte (.353 – 1 HR – 2 RBI) went 2-4 with a home run and stolen base in the Indianapolis Indians 4-3 loss to Columbus on Monday night. Batting .353, Marte is 6-17 on the season with 1 home run, 2 RBI’s, a double, triple, stolen base and 2 runs scored.
— Jeff Clement (.375 avg – 0 HR – 2 RBI) batting .375, hit an RBI double in the loss, his 5th double of the season and 2nd RBI.
ALTOONA CURVE REPORT
The Curve (2-2) suffered a 5-1 loss to Akron on Monday. Altoona was limited to just 3 hits in the loss. Aaron Pribanic (0-1) took the loss, allowing 4 hits and 3 runs (1 earned run)..
