This morning the Steelers conducted their first OTA workout of the off-season. While the workouts are voluntary, players are basically required to show up.
Running back Willie Parker, 29, entering the final year of his contract is among 8 players missing
from today’s workout. Many believe Parker is likely entering his last season with the Steelers. He seeks a long-term extension but the Steelers have no intention of breaking the bank to retain Parker.
The Steelers are in the process of grooming 2008 first round pick Rashard Mendenhall as their feature back in 2009.
Super Bowl M.V.P. Santonio Holmes is also absent from today’s workout. Holmes has two years remaining on his contract but he is not believed to missing the workout because he wants an extension.
Sources tell us he has some personal matters he is dealing with and was giving permission to miss.
Lawrence Timmons, Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Tyrone Carter, Nick Eason and Larry Foote were among 5 others missing from today’s workout.
