KEISEL LIKELY TO RESIGN?
Brett Keisel resigning with the Steelers isn’t a matter of if but when. The Steelers have offered Keisel a one year deal with a max value of $1.020 million but the offer has been declined for now.
Keisel, according to a source directly involved in negotiations, is seeking around $2 million per season on a one year deal as the two sides are about $1 million apart.
Will they meet in the middle at $1.5 million?
Keisel, 35, turns 36 in September. He started 12 games last season, recording 4 sacks, but had a foot issue that has worried some team officials.
Through almost two weeks of OTA’s, the Steelers have Cam Heyward starting in Keisel’s former starting spot at right defensive end with Cam Thomas taking first team reps at left defensive end.
Steelers coaches believe second round pick Stephon Tuitt has a great chance to win a starting job out of camp.
Keisel would likely be in more of a part-time role this season, a reason the Steelers won’t be budging much off their veteran minimum offer, if at all.
