AUSTIN ON RADAR?
The Steelers see the importance of adding a long-term big wide receiver in the draft to complement Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders, but there is serious intrigue in team circles surrounding West Virgina’s 5-foot-8, 174-pound receiver Tavon Austin.
Austin who wowed Steelers officials at the combine and yesterday at WVU’s proday, is expected to garner serious consideration from the team with the No. 17 selection.
With the type of quick passing game the Steelers want to continue to implement under Todd Haley, Austin fits the bill in several areas, despite the need of a long-term No. 2 type big receiver.
The buzz among scouts and evaluators from WVU’s proday is that Austin flashed a combination of speed and quickness, to go with an excellent burst and change of direction ability in drills. One source says offensive coordinator Todd Haley is “giddy” about Austin.
