Speculation from the national media continues regarding Panthers GM Jacques Martin scouting the Penguins – Capitals game
Scott Burnside has an article up about Florida Panthers GM Jacques Martin who was on hand for Wednesday’s Capitals-Penguins game and wondered if he were scouting the two teams as potential trade partners for defenseman Jay Bouwmeester.
Burnside did a lot of speculating claiming Martin might have been looking at Alexander Semin from the Caps and Kris Letang from the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Capitals are believed to be heavily interested in Jay Bouwmeester but they won’t be moving Semin for Bouwmeester. The two teams have discussed a package of Michael Nylander and others for Bouwmeester. Sources tell me Nylander was one of Martin’s targets on Wednesday.
As for the Penguins — would they make a run at Bouwmeester? The Penguins have more pressing needs like acquiring a top 6 winger but you never know. The last time I heard Bouwmeester being connected to the Penguins from sources inside the organization was in October. It is believed that the Panthers do like Kris Letang more than Alex Goligoski.
Other Panthers the Penguins have inquired about in recent months are Cory Stillman, Nathan Horton, and David Booth. The Panthers have no intentions of moving Booth and to acquire Horton, the Penguins would have to move Jordan Staal.
