LATEST PENGUINS RUMORS
Penguins officials have seen the Florida Panthers quite a bit this week. The Panthers embarrassed the Penguins on home ice Monday night and Friday night the Penguins had two scouts in attendance for the Panthers home game vs the Colorado Avalanche.
Florida has some potential players of interest for the Penguins:
1. Brad Boyes – In the final year of his contract with a cap hit of just $1 million, Boyes has 12 goals and 22 points on the season. Why the Penguins might look at him: His cap hit is low and he fit well last season with a top talent in John Tavares and Matt Moulson. Boyes had 35 points in 48 games last season for the Islanders.
2. Marcel Goc – Goc has a lot of qualities that the Penguins coaches look for in players. Speed and two-way play. Goc in the final year of his contract with a cap hit of just $1.7 million, has 9 goals and 18 points on the season. He’s first among Panthers forwards with 84 hits and is 53.6% in the faceoff circle. Goc can play center or wing and provide a bit of secondary scoring.
3. Scottie Upshall – Scouts call Upshall a “Penguins type of player” but his $3.5 million cap hit for this season and next season makes him an unlikely target, sources say, though I hear the Penguins like him.
