Montreal Canadiens GM Bob Gainey will meet with the agent of Mike Komisarek on Monday as the Habs hope to strike a deal with Komisarek and prevent him from testing free agency.
If Komisarek tests free agency, it will play a factor on one potential landing spot for Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi.
The Islanders are expected to make a substantial offer to Komisarek on July 1 and if they land Komisarek, it may put them out of the running to sign Rob Scuderi who is their plan B.
League sources tell TIOPS, the Islanders are prepared to offer Scuderi
a five year deal worth $15-$17 million but a lot of that depends on which direction Mike Komisarek goes.
Another team coming into the frame work for Scuderi will be the Minnesota Wild. Under Chuck Fletcher the Wild are also expected to give Ruslan Fedotenko a strong look.
The New York Rangers have been highly interested in Scuderi for sometime and made a play for him prior to the trade deadline.
But, like Pittsburgh they won’t be able to go much above $2 million per season.
A team to watch out for will be the LA Kings who like the Islanders have interest in Scuderi and can outbid the Penguins significantly.
