Source: Skoula’s agent has been granted permission to seek a trade.
Could Martin Skoula be on the outs? With the Penguins conducting mid-season evaluations this week, discussions have centered around defenseman Ben Lovejoy.
Some in the organization want him to stay and give the Penguins more options in their top-6.
One scenario the Penguins are exploring is placing Martin Skoula on waivers this week to open up a spot for Lovejoy.
A source tells me Penguins general manager Ray Shero met with Skoula’s agent in Edmonton on Thursday and Skoula’s camp has been granted permission to look for a trade, the same kind of scenario the Penguins offered to Allan Walsh the agent for Miroslav Satan last year.
Skoula has been a healthy scratch for five straight games after being benched against the Philadelphia Flyers. He has been in the press box since, despite Brooks Orpik missing four straight games.
With Brooks Orpik close to returning, Pittsburgh will make a decision on Lovejoy in the 24-48 hours.
