27 year winger looks to rebound from tumultuous season
Taylor Pyatt, 6-4, 230 lbs is looking for the right situation and one place his camp sees an great opportunity is in Pittsburgh.
Sources close to Pyatt tell TIOPS, the representatives for 27 old winger approached the Penguins last week to guage some interest in their client.
Pyatt who scored 23 goals in the 2006-2007 season went through a tough year in 2009 losing his fiancee in a tragic car accident.
He struggled last season scoring 10 goals and 9 assists and only appearing in 4 playoff games.
In the past Pyatt has shown the ability to play well with skilled players such as the Sedin twins.
Penguins scouts like Pyatt as the team nearly traded Michel Ouellet for him during the 2006-2007 season.
He also fits the type of winger they are looking for but Pittsburgh doesn’t have the cap flexibility to offer a guaranteed contract to a player they don’t know that will fit into their system.
Pittsburgh would clearly be interested in inviting Pyatt to camp and this could be a possibility if he doesn’t receive any one-way offers before September.
A source close to Pyatt mentioned to me they have been in talks with a few other teams (NYI) including the Boston Bruins who like Pittsburgh have an interest in inviting Pyatt to camp.
