Gerber a tough sell?
Senators GM Bryan Murray has held talks with the Kings and Coyotes about trading G Martin Gerber but still hasn’t had any luck, according to the Ottawa Sun.
The two years and $7.4M remaining on Gerber’s contract remain appears to be a deal killer. the Coyotes had been rumored to have asked the Senators to take defenseman Derek Morris and his $3.9 million salary for next season as part of the deal. Jovo to waive his no trade clause?
The Phoenix Coyotes are trying to unload Ed Jovanoski’s bloated contract and have asked him to waive his no trade clause. The Yotes are talking to the Rangers and Islander. The New York Islanders reportedly have a deal on the table to acquire Jovanoski but Jovo apparently will not waive his trade clause for Long Island but will waive his no trade clause to go the Rangers. The Rangers are rumored to have offered goaltender Al Montoya out of Michigan University.
Guerin gauging plenty of interest
Up to ten teams have inquired about rw Bill Guerin including the Senators, Rangers, Red Wings, Sharks, Canucks, Penguins, Maple Leafs, Islanders, Sabres, Blues and Hurricanes. Despite lots of interest Guerin has only received two offers. He recently turned down a 2yr – 7 million offer from the NYI but they remain interested. Guerin who made 2 million last season is seeking 4 million per season after a 35 + goal season. Sources say Guerin is scarying teams away with his demands. His price is rumored to have dropped but teams are still not biting. Ottawa is believed to have a offer on the table but it is under 4 million per season. According to the Boston Hearald the Bruins are interested in brining Guerin back to the fold. “It’s finding the right fit with the term and money and place to play” Guerins agent Bob Murray told the Providence post. Lundqvists seeking Long term deal
Hennrik Lundqvist’s agent, Don Meehan, warned the Rangers they wouldn’t be wise to take the restricted free agent goalie to arbitration instead of locking him up to a long-term deal, according to The New York Post. It is rumored the two sides were talking about a 5yr extension worth 4.5-5 million per season. That was before the Rangers went on a spending frenzy in free agency.
Reports out of Canada are indicating the Montreal Canadiens have offered rw Mike Ryder and a 1st round pick for Patrick Marleau. The deal could hinge on Marleau signing a long term extension.
Kovy back on the block?
The Montreal Canadiens are willing to listen to offers for disgruntled right winger Alexei Kovalev but a source says the draft was the time for a team to step up and nab Kovalev. CKGM Team 990 is speculating the Canadiens price has risen due to the fact the Canadiens did not bring a big name player via free agency. The Penguins and Capitals were talks with the Habs regarding Kovalev during this last months draft.
