While rumors surfaced about Peter Forsberg last week, there were more reports over the weekend involving Flyers players and trade rumors. According to a report in the Chicago Daily Herald, new Flyers GM Paul Holmgren is looking to make a big trade and Simon Gagne’s name could be part of such a deal. The Buzzontheburgh has learned the Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche are two teams involved in talks with the Flyers right now.
Latest Bruins rumors
We reported last week the Bruins are shopping for goaltending and they have turned their attention to San Jose. A few reports out of Canada had the Bruins shopping for Evgeni Nabokov, his $5.375 annual salary is too hefty for Boston. The only way that deal would happen is if Glenn Murray was sent to San Jose but the Sharks have no interest in Murray. Now the Edmonton Journal and Boston Globe both speculated that the Sharks’ other netminder, Vesa Toskala, might be an option for the Bruins. Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli told the Globe that he is making phone calls but denied reports the Bruins are interested in Penguins Jocelyn Thibault. The Buzzontheburgh says don’t believe a word from Chiarelli but Thibault is obviously not at the top of his list. Also look for Brad Stuart and Marco Sturm to be on trading block.
The New York Post reported over the weekend, the Phoenix Coyotes were working on a deal to send Nick Boynton to the San Jose Sharks for netminder Evgeni Nabokov. The talks, however, broke down. The Post reported that the Coyotes have been shopping Boynton, who was acquired via free agency this summer. Boynton is in the first year of a three year deal that pays him 2.95 million annually.
